New Delhi: Budget carrier SpiceJet on Wednesday announced the launch of daily direct flights to the newly built Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda from Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata under the Regional Connectivity Scheme called UDAN beginning March 31.
The airline is celebrating the launch by announcing an introductory promotional fare starting at Rs 3701 (all inclusive) on Delhi-Jharsuguda, Jharsuguda-Delhi, Jharsuguda-Hyderabad, Hyderabad-Jharsuguda routes and Rs 2560 (all inclusive) on Jharsuguda-Kolkata and Kolkata-Jharsuguda routes.
SpiceJet is the first Indian carrier to connect the un-served market of Jharsuguda with Delhi and Hyderabad. The airline will launch daily direct flights on the Jharsuguda-Delhi-Jharsuguda, Jharsuguda-Hyderabad-Jharsuguda and Jharsuguda-Kolkata-Jharsuguda sectors. With the addition of these new flights, SpiceJet will be operating 29 daily flights under the regional connectivity scheme.
The airline will be deploying its Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the Jharsuguda-Delhi-Jharsuguda sector whereas the other two UDAN sectors of Jharsuguda-Hyderabad-Jharsuguda and Jharsuguda-Kolkata-Jharsuguda would be served by its Bombardier Q400 fleet.
“SpiceJet is delighted to provide direct air connectivity from Jharsuguda, one of Odisha’s biggest manufacturing hubs and a top investment destination, to key metro cities and beyond. We are confident that these new flights will do very well much like our other UDAN flights and will give a big push to the economic growth of Odisha,” SpiceJet CMD Ajay Singh said in a statement following a function to celebrate SpiceJet’s association with Jharsuguda.
Jharsuguda, Odisha’s top investment and manufacturing hub, marks SpiceJet’s maiden entry into the State and will be the airline’s tenth destination under UDAN.
With the new flights, passengers from Jharsuguda will now be able to easily travel to a host of cities on SpiceJet’s domestic as well as international network via multiple onward connections from key metros, the airline said in its statement.
