Bhubaneswar: Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) is planning to start training in sport climbing for boys and girls in the age group of 10 to 16 at the High Performance Centre at Kalinga Stadium here from July 26.
The centre has been set up by IMF in collaboration with Sports and Youth Services Department with an aim to take the Indian sport climbing to international level.
Professional of national and international level have been hired to conduct the training.
Sport climbing is now an Olympic discipline, making its debut in 2020 in Tokyo and 2024 in Paris. In view of this, IMF has planned a detailed roadmap with an aim to spread awareness about the sport and identify athletes at an early age, an official release said.
Registration has begun on July 18 at Climbing wall site, North Stand, Hockey Complex, Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. It is free of cost.
IMF also plans to build an Indian team for international level competitions, the release added.
