Chandigarh: Former Punjab chief Captain Amarinder Singh has repeatedly said that Navjyot Singh Sidhu is not fit to lead the state as he’s a threat to the country’s security because of his close relationship with the ISI and Pakistan.
Now that Amarinder has quit his former party and declared that he would float his own outfit, Congress has turned the heat on the Captain.
Punjab’s deputy CM Sukhjinder Randhawa hinted on Friday that Amarinder may himself have an indirect link with the ISI. The state government will probe Amarinder’s possible connection with the ISI through Aroosa Alam, a female defence journalist of Pakistan.
“Captain Amarinder Singh is now saying that there is a threat from ISI. We will look into the woman’s connection with it. Captain kept raising drones issue coming from Pakistan for last 4-5 years. So Captain first raised this issue and later got BSF deployed in Punjab. We will ask DGP to look into this matter,” ANI quoted Randhawa as saying.
Amarinder reportedly met Aroosa for the first time during his visit to Pakistan in 2004. Aroosa is the daughter of veteran Pakistan politician Aqleem Akhtar.
Aroosa was romantically linked with Captain Amarinder in 2007. Aroosa had termed their relationship as platonic at an event in Chandigarh Press Club.
“I am his friend and not in love with him,” she had said.
In August this year, Sidhu’s then advisor Malvinder Singh Mali had posted a picture of Amarinder with Aroosa. “I used to think that this is your personal matter but now that you have linked Navjyot Sidhu’s advisors with Congress politics and national security, I am compelled to post this,” Mali wrote.
