According to sources, the youth, identified as Simanchal Sasmal of Ganjam district had made friendship with the girl belonging to Deogarh town in Facebook around two years back. They used to chat on the social media platform on various issues including personal matters.

During their chat, Simanchal confessed to the girl that he was in love with her and wanted to have a relationship. Despite his repeated requests, the girl turned down the proposal.

On Saturday afternoon, the girl along with a child was going to a market place in the town in the evening when Simanchal confronted her. They were engaged in argument for some time and then Simanchal brought out a blade and slashed the girl’s throat.
