Bhubaneswar: While the low-pressure area over Southwest Bay of Bengal is unlikely to have any significant impact on Odisha, the India Meteorological Department on Monday warned of squally weather conditions in the state till May 15.
An orange warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (50-60 kmph) has been issued for one or two places in Mayurbhanj during the afternoon and evening hours on May 11. Similar weather conditions with wind speed of 40-50 kmph may also prevail in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) may continue in Balasore, Bhadrak,
Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri, the following day.
On May 13, there is a warning for thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Koraput. Similar weather conditions may prevail in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi and Kandhamal on May 14-15.
However, the system over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to become more marked during the next 48 hours, is likely to push up the mercury levels in the state. The weather agency has predicted a rise in the day temperature by 2-4°C after 2 days.
