Puri: As Sri Kshetra Parikrama project work is in progress in Puri town of Odisha, one of oldest cinema halls of the state located around 100 metre from Jaganath Temple, was razed to the ground on Monday.
Located behind the office of the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration, Sri Krishna cinema hall had been closed for the last several months. It was pulled down by the administration to make space for the ongoing project works, sources said.
The land on which the cinema hall was built belongs to the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration.
After the demolition drive, sub-collector Bhabatarana Sahu said, “Eviction of encroachments in the town is underway. Some people had long been occupying the land of the cinema hall. They will be compensated.”
It may be noted that Sri Krishna Cinema hall was one of five halls in the pilgrim town. Four other cinema halls had been lying closed since Cyclone Fani that hit the state in 2019.
