Bhubaneswar: In order to improve the services for the people at RTOs, the State Transport Authority (STA) has signed an MoU with National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) for implementation of Smart Queue Management System.
In the first phase, the project will be implemented in Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Bhubaneswar-1, Cuttack, Ganjam, Puri, Driving Testing Track at RTO-2, Bhubaneswar at an estimated cost of Rs 2.18 crore. It will be gradually implemented in other RTOs, according to a press release.
Under the Smart Queue Management System, people can book the slot in advance through online portal or can come directly for different services related to vehicle, driving licence, challans and others.
When a person will visit the office, a token will be generated and he/she does not have to stand in queues. They can comfortably wait inside the office for their turn which will be displayed in all the counters. Besides, one can know the approximate waiting time for getting the service through predictive forecasting by the system. He will also receive notification for the service from time to time.
The system will also be implemented in the Learner’s Licence and Driving Licence test centres.
The decision on Smart Queue System was taken after implementation of amended MV Act led to huge rush in the RTOs. Subsequently, the STA has taken several steps to introduce various services in online mode to reduce the footfall in the RTOs.
The Memorandum of Undertaking (MOU) was signed by State Transport Authority (STA) representative MR Lodha; Additional Commissioner Transport (Technical), STA, Cuttack and Anupam Gayen, Senior Branch Manager, NSIC in the presence of Sanjeeb Panda, Transport Commissioner, Niti Sekhar, ATC (Enforcement) and Srinibas Behera, ATC (Administration) at STA office in Cuttack on Monday.
