Bandra: Bollywood music composer Pritam Chakraborty has reported a robbery of Rs 40 lakh, allegedly carried out by one of his employees, at his Mumbai office.
The theft was discovered by Pritam’s manager, who then informed police.
The primary suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Ashish Sayal and Malad police have launched a manhunt to trace him. The sum had been received as payment from a production house for an assignment completed by the studio.
According to reports, the theft occurred at 2 pm on February 4 at Pritam’s Goregaon studio, Unimus Record Pvt Ltd. A production house had delivered Rs 40 lakh in cash to Pritam’s manager, Vineet Chedda, who placed it in a trolley bag before heading to the National Award-winning composer’s residence located in the same building to get signatures on some documents.
At the time, three employees- Ashish Sayal, Ahmed Khan, and Kamal Disha were present. When Chedda returned at around 10.30 pm, he found the bag missing. The employees claimed Sayal had taken it, supposedly to transfer it to Pritam’s residence.
Chedda tried contacting Sayal, but his calls went unanswered, and the number was later found switched off. He then visited Sayal’s residence but found him missing. Realising that the money was gone, Chedda immediately reported the theft to Pritam, who advised him to file a police complaint.
Police are examining CCTV footage, and questioning staff to determine if he had accomplices. “We are reaching out to his relatives and also working on leads through his mobile phone’s call data record,” an officer was quoted as saying News 18.
