Mumbai: Bollywood director Shaad Ali has approached a Mumbai court over alleged theft of his script by two of former associates.
Shaad wants the court to direct the police to lodge a case against the duo.
Shaad, who has directed films like ‘Saathiya’, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ and ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’, stated in his complaint that his former associates had registered his script as their own with the Screen Writers Association and were pitching the story to production houses.
His lawyer Jay Bharadwaj told the court that the filmmaker had been working on the script for years and shared his thoughts with the two men.
The lawyer submitted that the entire script was Shaad Ali’s brainchild and he shared it with his associates as they said they could make some contribution to improve it.
Shaad had even made a payment of Rs 90,000 each to the duo as a goodwill gesture.
He said in the complaint that when he confronted the two men, they allegedly threatened him and instead asked for Rs 5 crore to amicably settle the issue.
The is likely to pass an order on Shaad’s complaint on October 12.
