Stranded For Lockdown, 3 Truck Drivers Die In Dhenkanal
Dhenkanal: Mystery shrouds the death of three truck drivers near Sakthi Sugars Ltd at Haripur in Dhenkanal on Thursday.
According to police, five trucks, which had to come to transport spirit from the sugar mill to a liquor manufacturing plant in Khurda, were stranded at the spot due to ongoing lockdown.
On the day, drivers of other trucks found the trio lying unconscious and informed the security guard of the mill.
Gyanaranjan Samal, IIC Dhenakal Town Police Station said on being informed, they rushed to the spot and found one driver dead. They admitted one driver in Dhenkanal district headquarters hospital and another one was sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. Later, the two died in the hospitals.
The IIC suspected it to be a case of food poisoning and said further investigation is on. The bodies have been sent for post mortem, he added.
Akhay Das, manager (legal and administration) of Sakthi Sugars said, “The drivers had no link with our company. One of them told us that they were supposed to carry spirit to a company. The trucks were parked outside and nobody enquired about them.”
