Stroke care unit opens at Apollo Hospitals
Bhubaneswar: Governor Dr SC Jamir inaugurated the first-of-its-kind stroke care unit at Apollo Hospitals here on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said, “The stroke care unit will not only facilitate timely care to brain stroke patients but also help them get treatment of international standards within the state.”
The Governor asked healthcare strategists to ensure that people have access to quality treatment as the demand is expected to grow in coming years with the rise of ageing population.
Regional Chief Executive Officer, Apollo Hospitals, Sudhir M Diggikar said, “We have dedicated intensive care units but there was a need to set up a unit to take care of the stroke patients. Hence, we decided to set up the 7-bed stroke care unit here with all required facilities for acute stroke patients.”
Developing countries like India are facing a double burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases, said chief neurologist of Apollo Hospitals Bikash Kumar Mishra. “Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability in the country. Lifestyle related diseases are surging ahead at an alarming rate which has direct bearing on the stroke cases,” he added.
