Vidisha: Right-wing group Bajrang Dal workers, helped by hundreds of locals, barged into a school in Madhya Pradesh and pelted stones alleging religious conversion of students by the Christian Missionary institution on Monday.

The violence happened when the students of Class XII were in the middle of a mathematics exam.

Following allegations of conversion of students by the administration in social media, the St Joseph School in Ganj Basoda town of Vidisha district was targeted. Footage captured on mobile phones showed a huge crowd outside the building, raising slogans against the school administration.

The police were seen trying to disperse the crowd. The students and the school staff present during the incident had a narrow escape.

“Our concentration was broken, we want the exam to be held again,” a student was quoted as saying by NDTV while recounting the panic.

School manager, Brother Antony, claimed that he had the information of the attack a day earlier via local media, following which he alerted the police and the state administration. Antony alleged that the police did not make proper security arrangements. He also trashed claims of religious conversion.

According to police, action will be initiated against those responsible for the vandalism. “A probe has begun into the alleged religious conversion and the school management will be questioned,” Sub-Divisional Magistrate Roshan Rai said.
