Bhubaneswar: An incident of violence inside the campus of Vyasanagar Autonomous College in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Thursday forced authorities to postpone the students union elections.
Following a bomb-hurling incident, boarders of different hostels have been asked to vacate the premises by Friday morning.
The authorities issued a notification stating that the college will remain closed till further orders.
“As decided in the meeting of the Election Committee and the Academic Committee, the college shall remain closed with effect from 1 pm on October 8 till further notice and students’ union election-2026 in the college is postponed. The boarders in different hostels of the college are hereby directed to vacate the hostels by the morning of October 9,” the notification read.
Students’ union polls in Odisha are scheduled to be held on October 15, as per the state’s Higher Education Department.
According to reports, unidentified miscreants hurled crude bombs, targeting the principal’s chamber and boys’ hostel of Vyasanagar College late on Wednesday night, soon after authorities issued a notification for the students’ union polls next week.
Tension prevailed in the campus after two groups of students blamed each other for orchestrating the violence, triggering panic among hostel boarders.
Thereafter, the management decided to close the college and directed boarders to leave hostels.
