Students’ Unrest: Central University Of Orissa Closed Sine Die
Jeypore: The Central University of Orissa was closed sine die on Thursday following students’ unrest on the campus of the educational institution.
The authorities had asked the students to vacate the campus by 11 am and put up notices mentioning the same on the hostel premises and other places of the university.
“We were forced to declare sine die after a group of over 100 students staged violent protest on the campus seeking immediate fulfillment of their 52-point charter of demands. The students have refused to withdraw their strike even after being assured on Wednesday that their demands will be looked into. We have requested the police to take the charge and prevent further escalation of tension in the university premises”, Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Sachidananda Mohanty said.
“Despite several requests to consider our demands including filling of vacant teachers’ posts, establishment of new departments and ensuring basic facilities at the hostels, the authorities does not pay any heed to our grievances. So, we had decided to boycott classes.
Meanwhile, a platoon of police force has been deployed in the university to prevent any untoward incident.
