Berhampur: A Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme was conducted at Sitalapalli campus of SUM Hospital here to focus on effective implementation of hospital infection control (HIC) practices which are considered key to prevention of infection in hospitals.

HIC practices are measures and protocols put in place to stop or prevent spread of infection in hospitals. These include hand hygiene, proper use of personal protective equipment, biomedical waste management, isolation precaution and sterilisation of equipment.

Dr Apurba S Sastry, an infectious disease specialist and clinical microbiologist at Puducherry’s Jawahar Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education (JIPMER) was the resource person at the CME.
