Bhubaneswar: In view of prevailing heatwave conditions, the Odisha government has directed for preponing the summer vacation in all schools across the state.
All schools — government, private and aided — up to Class XII will be closed from April 21. “In view of the prevailing heatwave conditions, summer vacation for schools (from Class I to XII), both government and private, will start from April 21, 2023. The School and Mass Education Department will notify the date of reopening in due course,” a CMO release said on Thursday.
A detailed notification in this regard will also be released soon, it added.
Usually, summer vacation begins from the first week of May.
The state has been reeling under severe heatwave conditions and 11 places experienced extreme heat with the mercury soaring past 43 degree Celsius on Wednesday. Baripada in Mayurbhanj was the hottest at 44.5 degree Celsius.

The government had earlier shut schools for five days (April 12 to 16) and again for two days (April 19 to 20) amid the scorching heat.
