Sundargarh: Odisha’s Akashi Nayak has been named in the Indian U-19 women’s football squad that will take part in the South Asian Football Championship in Nepal’s Pokhara.
Akashi, a Sundargarh Sports Hostel product, is the only footballer from Odisha to make the cut for the tournament which gets underway on January 31.
Akashi, a defender, is the seventh player from the Sundargarh Sports Hostel to be selected for the national junior team.
Akashi Nayak, who was included in the India camp based on her impressive performances in national-level tournaments, impressed the selectors during the camp.
Sundargarh Sports Hostel coach Hriday Ranjan (Tuna) Singh said he was confident that Akashi would enhance Sundargarh Sports Hostel and Odisha’s glory through her performance.
India will begin their campaign against Nepal on January 31, followed by matches against Bangladesh on February 2 and Bhutan on February 4.
The final match of the tournament will be played on February 7.
