Sundargarh: Town Police and Lephirpara Police rescued a minor girl from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh and arrested three persons, including a couple.
The girl, a native of Lephirpara in Sundargarh district, was allegedly sold in Uttar Pradesh for Rs 60,000.
The arrested have been identified as Panchami Kamar, a relative of the victim, and Choudhury Puspendra Singh and his wife Bimala Choudhury.
“They had taken the girl to Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh on the pretext of providing her a job. They then sold her off to an elderly man in Sahdol area in Muzaffarnagar. The man latter married her,” informed Sundargarh SP Soumya Mishra at a press conference here on Saturday.
Acting on the complaint of the girl’s family, a police team left for Uttar Pradesh and arrested the trio. they have been forwarded to court, Mishra added.
