London: Businessman Sunjay Kapur, who breathed his last on June 12 while playing polo in London, died of natural causes, British medical authorities said in a letter to his wife Priya Sachdev Kapur.
The Surrey Coroner’s office informed the family that the investigation has revealed Sunjay died of “natural causes”, and listed left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and ischemic heart disease as the cause of death.
LVH, a condition where the muscular wall of the heart’s left ventricle thickens and makes it harder for blood to be pumped effectively, often develops when the heart is working harder than normal or because of higher blood pressure.
In case of ischemic heart disease, or coronary artery disease, heart muscle doesn’t receive enough blood and oxygen because of narrowed arteries.
“In light of this, the investigation has now been discontinued pursuant to Section 4 of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009… there will be no need for an inquest,” the coroner’s office said.
It answers serious questions raised by Rani Kapur about her son’s death.
Rani and his daughter-in-law Priya are in the midst of a bitter family feud over control of the Rs 30,000-crore Sona Group.
Rani had written to Surrey Police last week, stating that she has “credible and concerning evidence… that suggests his death may not have been accidental or natural, but may have involved foul play.”
Sources close to Priya Kapur told NDTV that the Surrey coroner’s report has been shared with Rani Kapur, who is still not convinced and feels Sunjay was murdered as part of a “transnational conspiracy”. Rani’s finger of suspicion is towards Priya.
