Gajapati: The officers of Berhampur vigilance division caught a supply inspector at Nuagada block in Gajapati district red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 bribe on Monday. The arrested has been identified as Sabyasachi Mahapatra.
The trap was laid on the basis of a complaint lodged by Siba Palai of Jahada in Ganjam district. Mahapatra had demanded the amount for clearing pending bills towards transport charges of Public Distribution System (PDS) items for March, June and July 2020.
Vigilance sleuths said Mahapatra’s hand wash and chemical examination of the notes have confirmed he accepted the bribe money.
Following which, Mahapatra’s office room at Nuagada in Gajapati and house at Chandanpur in Puri were also searched. Mahapatra was arrested and will be forwarded to the court.
