New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Sunday granted veteran journalist Vinod Dua protection from arrest in connection with an FIR lodged against him by Himachal Pradesh police for uploading a YouTube video criticising the Centre’s implementation of the lockdown.
A three-judge bench passed the directive during a special sitting to hear Dua’s petition to quash the FIR against him. Vikas Singh, Dua’s counsel, argued that allowing the probe to continue in a flimsy case like this one will send wrong signals.
The court, however, refused to quash the FIR against Dua and allowed police to continue with the probe. It also directed the journalist cooperate with the investigation, Hindustan Times reported.
The bench also issued notices to the Centre and Himachal Pradesh government in the case.
The FIR is regarding a video uploaded by Dua on YouTube on March 30.
