New Delhi: A few days after the Supreme Court cleared the way for stalled NEET-PG 2021 counselling, a fresh petition has been filed in the apex court to postpone the NEET-PG scheduled on March 12.
The petition, filed by six MBBS graduates, stated that hundreds of MBBS graduates will not be able to appear at the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to post-graduate medical courses as their mandatory internship period has not been completed.
These medical graduates’ internship was disrupted due to their deputation in COVID duty. “The petitioners have mentioned that they were in COVID duties in 2021 and therefore, their internship was postponed. They have submitted that they are victims of circumstances and that they were not informed at any time that serving in COVID duties would tantamount to a situation where they will not be eligible to appear for the NEET-PG,” a national news agency quoted the lawyer as saying.
They pointed out that the NEET PG regulations of providing 30 beds of a hospital to one unit of students pursuing the PG course would be violated if the test is permitted which would lead to students of two academic sessions being accommodated in the same facility.
The petition has sought an extension of the deadline of completion of internship from May 31.
It may be noted that the Supreme Court, on January 7, had allowed the NEET-PG 2021 counselling process, which had been stalled due to a case challenging the quota for OBC students in the court. The apex court had said the counselling can start with the existing 27% quota for OBC and 10% for EWS.
