Chandigarh: Cricketer Suresh Raina took to Twitter on Tuesday to request Punjab Police to investigate the murders of his uncle and cousin and arrest the culprits.
The tweet came after Raina’s uncle, Ashok Kumar, and family were attacked by a gang of robbers at their house in Punjab’s Pathankot district which led to the death of his uncle and cousin.
Expressing anguish over the incident, the cricketer tweeted, “What happened to my family in Punjab was beyond horrible. My uncle was slaughtered to death, my bua (paternal aunt), and both my cousins received severe injuries. Unfortunately, my cousin also passed away last night (Monday) after battling for life for days. My bua is still very critical and is on life support.”

In another tweet, he wrote, “Till date, we don’t know what exactly happened that night and who did this. I request @PunjabPoliceInd to look into this matter. We at least deserve to know who did this heinous act to them. Those criminals should not be spared to commit more crimes.”

About the incident, police said a gang of three to four members had come with the intention to loot and attacked Ashok Kumar, a government contractor, and his family members at their house at Thariyal village near Madhopur in Pathankot, reported Hindustan Times.
The family was attacked on the night of August 19, when all of them were sleeping on the terrace of their house.
According to police, Ashok Kumar died because of major head injuries on the same night. Apart from him, Kumar’s 80-year-old mother Satya Devi, his wife Asha Devi, sons Apin and Kaushal were also injured. The robbers ran away with gold and cash from the house.
Meanwhile, Gulneet Khurana, Senior Superintendent of Police (Pathankot) said, “We are investigating the matter.”
