New York: Google Chrome, the world’s most used web browser, is the most vulnerable web browser according to a survey conducted by Atlas VPN.

Chrome has been found to have 303 vulnerabilities this year, and a cumulative total of 3,159.

The figures are based on information from the VulDB vulnerability database, between January 1 and October 5, 2022.

The survey, though, doesn’t reveal the severity of vulnerabilities and concentrates on total number of vulnerabilities (including those with patches).

Mozilla’s Firefox was found to be the second-most vulnerable bowser, with 117 vulnerabilities.

Microsoft Edge was found to have 103 vulnerabilities — 61% higher than the previous year – and 806 in total.

Among the safer browsers is Apple’s Safari. The survey found Safari browser experienced 26 vulnerabilities till October 5, and 1,139 vulnerabilities overall.

Safari is currently the second-most widely used browser across the worldwide after Google Chrome, with over 1 billion users.

The Opera browser has been found to have only 344 vulnerabilities this year so far.

Since Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Opera are based on Chromium engine, the survey noted that all these browsers may be affected by Chromium vulnerabilities.

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) recently advised users to update Google Chrome app to avoid possible data infringement.
