The suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput has triggered a debate on nepotism in Bollywood with social media platforms being just as active on the red-hot topic.
Some ‘villains’ have emerged, with fans blasting Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt for insensitive comments against Sushant during a TV show earlier. An advocate in Bihar has also filed a case against filmmakers Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor and Sanjay Leela Bhansali in connection with Sushant’s death.
So much so that the likes of Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt and Sonam Kapoor have ‘lost’ followers on Instagram.
Director-producer Johar’s list of followers has gone down from 11 million to 10.8 million.
Celebrated actress Alia Bhatt faced the wrath too, with fans flooding her comments box with remarks on nepotism and some even seeking boycott of her films.
Alia’s Instagram handle saw a noticeable drop in followers — down from 48.9 million to 48.2 million.
Actress Sonam, daughter of Anil Kapoor, also saw a decline in the number of followers.
In contrast, Kangana Ranaut experienced a huge surge in followers. The outspoken actress, who wondered if Sushant’s death was “suicide or planned murder”, won over thousands of new fans as her Instagram followers went up from 2 million to 3.6 million within a few days.
