Bhubaneswar: After almost six months on the run, former IIC of Astaranga police station in Puri, Rajesh Baliarsingh, surrendered at district and sessions court in Odisha’s Koraput district on Tuesday.
Baliarsingh was suspended in August last year for gross misconduct and dereliction of duty over his alleged links with ganja smugglers during his previous posting as sub-inspector in Koraput. It was further alleged that he continued to keep contact with the ganja smugglers even after getting promoted to inspector rank and being transferred to Puri district.
Baliarsingh was summoned and appeared before Koraput police at a police station in Bhubaneswar in this regard, but managed to slip out of the premises unnoticed. Following which, a search operation was carried out at his Bhubaneswar residence and later raids were conducted at multiple locations to trace his whereabouts.
