Bhubaneswar: A man climbed atop the Lion’s Gate of Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri, raising serios concerns over the security arrangements at the 12th century shrine.
The man reportedly climbed atop the structure, known as ‘Gumuta, while chasing a monkey that had snatched the vanity bag of a woman devotee at the Temple on Sunday evening.
As per information, the bag contained cash and important documents. In a frantic bid to recover the bag, the man climbed onto the structure at the Singhadwara. Carrying a stick, he tried to chase the monkey and retrieve the bag.
Visuals showed that the monkey moved aggressively around the area and at one point even chased the man, creating a tense situation near the temple premises. After considerable effort, the vanity bag was recovered, along with part of the cash.
The scene sparked concern among security personnel deployed at the shrine when they spotted the atop the Lions’ Gate. They breathed a sigh of relief after he descended from the structure safely.
The incident sparked debate over safety and security arrangements at the temple with devotees and locals seeking to know as to how the man climbed the structure in a risky manner.
