Suspense Deepens In Gobinda Sahu Death Case After Brown Envelope Recovered From Deceased’s Pocket
Bhubaneswar: The mysterious death of Gobinda Sahu, the prime accused in the lady teacher Mamita Meher murder case, continues to take new twists and turns. The death of Sahu, who reportedly committed suicide on the premises of Jantabanji sub-jail on Tuesday by hanging from a tree, has given rise to a controversy with the opposition parties claiming that he was murdered and demanding a CBI probe into the matter. Even Sahu’s wife claimed that her husband was murdered in jail custody to conceal crucial evidence in the Mamita murder case.
The issue took a new turn with a brown recovery of an envelope from the Sahu’s pocket just before he was taken for post-mortem.
However, police are yet to confirm the contents of the brown envelope. In fact, the envelope holds significance as the opposition parties alleged that Sahu possessed vital evidence in the murder of Mamita Meher, a teacher at Sunshine English Medium School at Mahaling in Kalahandi.
Sahu’s death triggered a political controversy as the opposition alleged that the deceased was a close associate of former Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra.
According to a relative of the deceased, the security lapse at the jail was responsible for Sahu’s death. The relative, who requested anonymity, said, “A brown envelope was found in the deceased’s pocket. We do not know what is there in the envelope. It was handed over to the Crime Branch. The post-mortem report will establish the exact cause of Sahu’s death.”
Meanwhile, two experts from the FMT department of Burla Medical College started the post-mortem process at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir on Wednesday morning.
At the same time, the Crime Branch of Odisha Police reached Kantabanji on Wednesday to conduct a detailed probe into the case.
Even as controversy rages over Sahu’s death, Mamita’s parents said that God has punished the accused. “We are happy as our wish has been fulfilled. We do not know how Gobinda Sahu died, but we prayed for his death.”
