Bhubaneswar: Odisha leaders of parties belonging to INDI Alliance (INDIA) on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the President through Governor condemning the suspension of 92 MPs from winter session of Parliament.
The delegation of INDIA groups, led by OPCC president Sarat Patnaik, met Governor Raghubar Das in Raj Bhavan and submitted the memorandum addressed to President Droupadi Murmu.
Stating that suspension of 92 MPs belonging INDIA groups for the remainder period of winter session of the Parliament was unprecedented and undemocratic, the Opposition leaders said, “Debate and discussion is a cardinal principle of democracy. But the present Modi dispensation does not like any debate and discussion in the Parliament. This shocking development illustrate autocratic mindset of the Central government.”
Accusing the government of having a hidden agenda, they said it wanted key legislations to be passed in the House in absence of the Opposition. “It’s very unfortunate the government wants to pass the vote on account without any participation of the Opposition. This is nothing but a clear negation of the parliamentary system of democracy which we had inherited. The Opposition members have not committed any mistake in demanding a statement from the Home Minister regarding the security breach on the Parliament,” they added.
They sought the intervention of the President to allow the suspended MPs to participate in the discussion in the Parliament to save democracy and democratic process.
