Cuttack: A tragic road accident was reported in Godisahi area under Barang police station limits in Odisha’s Cuttack district, where a cyclist lost his life after being struck by a speeding SUV on Monday.
The incident occurred near the Puri Main Canal bridge at Godisahi Bazaar, sending shockwaves through the local community. The victim has been identified as Raj Kishore Rout, a resident of Godisahi Barsingh village.
Rout was returning home on his bicycle when the SUV coming at high speed from the Banki side, rammed into him head-on. The impact proved fatal, leaving the cyclist with grievous injuries that led to his death on the spot.
Following the collision, the driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle which plunged into the canal adjacent to the road. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled immediately after the accident, leaving behind the mangled SUV at the crash site.
Police personnel reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident from the locals. The Scorpio was seized and the body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem examination. Authorities have launched a probe into the case, with efforts underway to trace the absconding driver and determine the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.
