New Delhi: Swiggy will no longer be delivering grocery, fruits, vegetables and other essential items in 100 cities. The service had been started two years ago from Gurugram.
However, Swiggy will continue to operate dark stores — warehouses from where the staff pick up goods ordered by online customers — under the brand name Instamart.
Swiggy has informed its users via an email that grocery and fresh farm produce services will no longer be listed on its app, reported Entrackr. All e-commerce platforms did brisk business in home delivery of essential items during lockdown.
Swiggy Stores will no longer be operational, but users can order grocery and other items through Swiggy Genie. Packages and documents can also be sent through Swiggy Genie.
“We expanded our services across the country during the lockdown as consumers turned to Swiggy not just for food but also other essentials. Given that movement restrictions have been eased, we are rolling back grocery delivery and focusing on offerings like Swiggy Genie,” a Swiggy spokesperson was quoted as saying.
