Take Action Against Brokers, Odisha Govt Tells RTOs

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Saturday directed the Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) to ban the entry of brokers in their office premises and lodge complaints against them with the police.

In a letter on Friday, Transport Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda has directed all the RTOs to take the following steps.

—Notice should be displayed prohibiting agents/middlemen to enter the premises and testing tracks. In case an agent/middleman is found loitering outside the premises, local police should be informed for necessary action.
—All temporary sheds or huts erected inside the office premises or on the side of the boundary wall on government land should be dismantled with the help of the local authority.
—The office staff and personnel engaged through service providers and Smart Chip Ltd in the office should be instructed not to entertain any agent/middleman inside and outside the office premises for any office work.
—All staff and personnel should be provided with identity card of different colours, such as the blue band ID for government employees, green band for staff engaged by the service provider and yellow band for employees of Smart Chip Ltd. They must display the ID card in the office.
—There should be large signboards/wall paintings showing different services provided by the office with the detailed rate chart like government fee, service charge etc.
—e-Kiosk should be installed in all regional transport offices for convenience of the public. If it is not installed, the office should engage its volunteers or student volunteers may be engaged to provide assistance to the public.
—CCTV may be installed inside the office and its premises. If not installed, the help desk may be strengthened to provide public assistance.
—In case of any threat or disturbances from the agents/middlemen, the local SP may be contacted for assistance.
—Awareness message should be displayed for public to contact only authorised officials of the RTO.
—The people should be requested to report the activities of the agents/middlemen to reach out to the State Transport Authority through the Twitter handle @STAOdisha, Facebook page ‘State Transport Authority Odisha’ and the help desk number 1800-345-1073.
