Dubai: As US and coalition forces left Afghanistan, fundamentalist group Taliban has unleashed mayhem over the country. The Taliban has taken over most of the major cities, except Kabul.
The terror group is camped around 50 km from the capital city, leaving the US and other countries scrambling to airlift their embassy officials. The US has started redeploying around 3,000 men to secure the airport and facilitate evacuations. They are hoping to move thousands of Afghans, who worked for the US as translators and in other capacities.
The Taliban are known for their brutality, especially towards women. Education for girls and right to work for women were abolished when the Taliban ruled before the US-led invasion in 2001. They were known to carry out public executions, chop off the hands of thieves and stoned women for adultery.
Now, girls have reportedly been lashed for wearing revealing sandals and not being accompanied by a male escort.
Many fear that the Taliban will forcibly marry off girls.
“All imams and mullahs in captured areas should provide the Taliban with a list of girls above 15 and widows under 45 to be married to Taliban fighters,” a letter issued in the name of Taliban’s Cultural Commission read.
