Tamil Nadu Shocker: Menstruating Dalit Student Made To Take Exam Outside Classroom!

Chennai: Menstruation can still be taboo in our society in the 21st century!

If you find that hard to believe, read what happened in Tamil Nadu.

A class VIII student of a private school in Coimbatore’s Senguttai was apparently forced to take her exam outside the classroom because the girl, who happens to be a Dalit, was having her period.

A video of the girl sitting on the steps of the classroom to write her Science exam has gone viral on social media. The clip shows the girl’s mother rushing to her and asking what happened. The student tells her that the Principal made her sit outside for the exam.

The student added that earlier also, she was made to take an exam from another isolated spot.

The video has obviously sparked outrage, prompting an inquiry by the Tamil Nadu School Education Department.

Tamil Nadu’s School Education minister Anbil Mahesh said that the school principal has been suspended, pending inquiry, and assured zero tolerance for any kind of oppression against children.

“A departmental inquiry was conducted against the private school. The school principal has been suspended. Oppression of children in any form cannot be tolerated. Dear student, do not sit alone! We are here. We will be here,” Anbil said in a post on X.
