Bhadrak: A teacher in charge of a quarantine centre was admitted to the district headquarters hospital in Odisha’s Bhadrak district after he was severely thrashed by four youths on Sunday.

According to sources, one Gopal Majhi of Jhinkiria village under Khaira police limits was sent to a government quarantine centre at the High School in the village after returning from Surat on his bike on May 15.

On Saturday, Majhi’s son came to the quarantine centre to take the bike and asked the Physical Instructor of the School, Laxmidhar Parida, in charge of the quarantine centre, to give him the key of the vehicle. Parida told him that the key is with the security personnel and asked him to come later. This led to a heated altercation between them. Parida was returning to his house from the market at Dungura on Sunday afternoon when four youths suddenly attacked him near Tutapada Chhak. Following information, the family members and the sarpanch rushed to the spot and admitted him to the district headquarters hospital.

Tension ran high in the area after the people of Gaganadhuli village staged a road blockade, demanding immediate arrest of the four accused.

Meanwhile, police have begun a manhunt to nab the accused.
