Teachers To Hold Mass Protest In Bhubaneswar On Feb 19

Bhubaneswar: The teachers and employees of various schools and colleges have decided to hold a mass convention at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here seeking immediate fulfilment of their seven-point charter of demands.

“Thousands of teachers engaged in different schools and colleges, will meet at a mass convention on February 19 demanding written assurance from the state government over withdrawal of the clause of compulsory submission of affidavit for availing grant-in-aid facility. The agitation will be intensified, if the demands are not heeded at the earliest ”, a member of All Odisha School and College Teachers’ and Employees Forum informed.

Two days ago, the higher education department had assured the teachers’ body that it is not compulsory to submit affidavits to avail grant-in-aid salary facility.

The move came after about 5, 000 teachers and employees of over 1, 000 schools and colleges took out a ‘padayatra’ from the Sri Gundicha Temple in Puri on February 7 and staged a demonstration at Mahatma Gandhi Marg after reaching the state capital the next day to press for their demands.
