Techie Dies In Washroom At HCL Technologies In Nagpur

Nagpur: In the disconcerting series of deaths in office or office-related stress, a 40-year-old techie died in the washroom of IT giant HCL Technologies in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

According to the police, Nitin Edwin Michael, a senior analyst at HCL Technologies became unresponsive after entering the washroom at around 7 pm on Friday.

His colleagues at the company’s office in the Mihan area took him to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Nagpur. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival, said an official from the Sonegaon police station.

The police have registered a case of accidental death and sent the body for post mortem. However, initial autopsy findings indicated the man died of cardiac arrest, the official added.

The police are investigating the case.

Michael is survived by his wife and their six-year-old son.

On Tuesday, a 45-year-old HDFC Bank employee in Lucknow, Sadaf Fatima, died in the office after suddenly falling from her chair. Her colleagues hinted that her death was due to excessive workload.

Her death followed the death of 26-year-old chartered accountant Anna Sebastian Perayil at her rented accommodation in Pune on July 20. She worked at the Pune office of Ernst & Young (EA).

In a letter, Anna’s mother blamed overwhelming workload as the reason for her untimely death, sparking a nationwide debate and the Union labour ministry initiating an investigation into the incident.
