Technology Key To Stop Migration Towards Cities: Scientists At KIIT-ISCA Seminar

Bhubaneswar: Extensive use of technology in rural India can empower villagers and stop migration to cities, agricultural scientists and experts have said.

Participating at a national seminar jointly organised by KIIT Deemed to be University and Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), Bhubaneswar Chapter on Friday, the speakers also underlined the importance of personalising agriculture and promoting non-farming jobs in rural areas.

The theme of the conference was ‘Science & Technology: Rural Development’.

The time has come to give importance to the social and economic well being of rural communities. While India has attained self-sufficiency in food production, the country should focus on growing organic food, they said.

“Through science congress, we have to take necessary steps towards sustainable economic growth. Indian economy is based on rural economy. We have to develop rural technology, as it is very important in the present age,” a statement issued by KIIT said quoting the speakers.

The participants included General President (Elect), ISCA Prof V L Saxena, General Secretary, Membership Affairs of ISCA Prof S Ramakrishna, Director ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute Dr. B. K Das, among others. Dr Kajal Parashar of ISCA, Bhubaneswar Chapter delivered the welcome address.
