Delhi: The affluent Hauz Khas area in South Delhi woke up to some bad news on Sunday. The bodies of two teenagers, aged about 17, were found hanging from a tree at the local Deer Park. The police have sent the bodies for autopsy and are trying to ascertain the identities of the minors.
Though death by suicide is being suspected, the police are probing all angles and scanning CCTV footage from around the area.
Around 6.30 am, the Delhi Police received a PCR Call from one Baljit Singh, a 35-year-old security guard of the park. On reaching the spot, they found the bodies hanging from a nylon rope. The boy was clad in a black t-shirt and denim trousers while the girl had a green dress on.
No suicide note was found from the spot. The police are checking if any missing complaints were lodged regarding youngsters matching the description of the couple.
News agency ANI has quoted Ashok, a regular visitor as saying: “I heard something had happened, so I came to see. If someone is responsible for this, they should be punished to prevent such incidents in the future. This is frightening — we visit this park regularly, and it makes us feel unsafe.”
Meanwhile, another visitor questioned the possibility of suicide, pointing out that the tree’s structure did not seem suitable for hanging. “We asked the police, and they believe it was suicide. A rope was found there, but looking at the tree, it doesn’t seem possible,” the visitor said.
