Khurda: A youth was allegedly stabbed to death during Triveni festival celebrations at a village in Balipatna area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
As per information, 18-year-old Lipuna Nath of Nathasahi village under the jurisdiction of Balipatna Police station died after being stabbed on the second day of the Triveni Utsav on Tuesday night.
The accused, identified as Mithun Nath, is absconding and police are yet to nab him. The shocking crime has left the community in grief and raised serious concerns about safety at local festivals.
The incident took place around 11 pm on Tuesday, when Lipuna was reportedly attacked with sharp a weapon by Mithun amid the celebrations. Lipuna was rushed to Balipatna Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead. His body has been sent to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar for post-mortem.
Residents of Nathasahi have expressed anger and fear over the incident, demanding stronger security arrangements during public gatherings such as the Triveni Utsav.
Police officials from Balipatna immediately reached the scene after receiving information. A case has been registered and efforts are on to arrest the accused.
Sources say accused Mithun has a criminal history. Investigators are questioning eyewitnesses to determine the circumstances that led to the attack. Forensic experts also visited the site to collect evidence from the crime scene.
