Hyderabad: The Telangana government has allotted Rs 100 crore for the journalists’ welfare fund.
There are 18,000 accredited journalists in the southern state.
“Telangana is the only state to have given accreditation to 18,000 journalists. The CM (K. Chandrashekar Rao) has put Rs 100cr for journalists’ welfare,” ANI quoted MLC K. Kavitha as saying on Sunday.
She announced that Rs 1 lakh will be given to family if a journalist passes away, while Rs 3000 will be given as pension to the kin for 5 years.
In a boost for the media community, the KCR-headed Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) will provide more relief.
“If a journalist, who has passed away, has children, Rs 1,000 will be given for their fees per child until they pass the 10th standard… we don’t want their studies to be disturbed,” Kavitha said.
In the event of any journalist meeting with an accident, the state government will provide Rs 50,000 for treatment.
