Bhubaneswar: In order to ensure uninterrupted telecom service during Severe Cyclone ‘Dana’, the Odisha government has made arrangements in coordination with different service providers.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Mukesh Mahaling, Minister of Electronics & Information Technology said the government has made necessary arrangements in consultation with the telecom service providers to ensure that the telecom services are not affected by the Cyclone ‘Dana’.
“We held a meeting with the telecom service providers including Jio, Airtel, BSNL and Vodafone. The companies agreed to activate the Intra-Circle Roaming in Odisha to provide uninterrupted telephone service during the cyclone. People will get uninterrupted telecom service even during the landfall of the cyclonic Dana,” he said.
Under the Intra-Circle Roaming facility, the telecom companies would share their networks with each other for providing uninterrupted telecom service during the cyclone. This facility has been activated, particularly in 7 districts which have been declared red zone by the IMD for the cyclone, the minister said.
He further said DG sets have been provided to all telecom towers to continue the service in case of electricity failure. Ruling out damage to the telecom towers by the cyclone, he said those can withstand wind speed upto 180 kmph.
