Temperature Crosses 40 Degree Celsius In 16 Places Of Odisha; Heatwave To Continue, Says IMD

Bhubaneswar: Even as IMD forecast that heatwave condition will prevail in Odisha till June 15, as many as 16 places in the state recorded temperature of more than 40 degree Celsius on Tuesday.

According to the evening bulletin of the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, the maximum (day) temperature shot up to 42 degree Celsius or more in nine places in the state.

Nuapada was the hottest place in the state with maximum temperature of 43.7 degree Celsius. It was followed by Malkangiri with 43.5 and Boudh with 43.2 degree.

The entire western Odisha came under the grip of heatwave as Jharsuguda recorded 42.6 degree Celsius. It was followed by Titlagarh with 42.5 and Rourkela 42.3 and Balangir, Sambalpur and Sonepur with 42 degree Celsius.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack witnessed marginal rise in maximum temperature with 38.4 and 37.47 degree Celsius respectively.

The IMD issued orange warning and said heatwave and warm night condition is likely at one or two places in the districts of Balangir, Sambalpur, Sundargarh and Nuapada till 8.30 am on Wednesday.

Issuing yellow warning for Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati, the Met office forecast that thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely at one or two places of these districts during the period.

It also said heatwave condition is likely in Boudh, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Sonepur and Bargarh districts. Hot and humid condition is likely to prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak,
Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh, it added.

Meanwhile, the IMD said Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of North Arabian Sea, Maharashtra and Telangana. The northern limit of monsoon now passes through Jalgaon, Akola, Pusad, Ramagundam, Sukma, Malkangiri and Vizianagaram.

Conditions are favourable for further advance of the monsoon into some more parts of Telangana and Chhattisgarh during next 48 hours, the IMD said.
