Temperature In Bhubaneswar Crosses 44°C For 1st Time This Summer As Odisha Turns A Boiling Cauldron; Red Alert For 5 Days
Bhubaneswar: With the heatwave conditions further intensifying across Odisha, state capital Bhubaneswar turned out to be the hottest place by 2.30 pm on Saturday recording a maximum temperature of 44.6 degree Celsius.
The temperature in Bhubaneswar crossed 44 degree Celsius for the first time this season. The state capital was closely followed by Jharsuguda which recorded 43.6 degree Celsius by 2.30 pm, while the mercury stood at 42.5 degree Celsius in Rourkela, 42.4 degree Celsius in Chandbali and 42.1 degree in Sambalpur.
In its midday weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said that due to prevailing northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation, day temperature is likely to further rise slightly by 2°C at many places over Odisha during next 24 hours.
Consequently, maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to be above normal by 4 to 6°C in some parts of the state during next 4 to 5 days, it said.
The MeT Centre issued a red alert for several areas for Saturday and said heatwave to severe heatwave condition may prevail in Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Khurda, and Cuttack.
Similarly, heatwave conditions will prevail in Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Malkangiri, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts, where orange alert was sounded.

The IMD further predicted that the heatwave conditions are likely to continue across Odisha till the middle of May.
