Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of temporary launch drivers staged a mass demonstration before the state assembly here on Monday seeking fulfillment of their demands, including permanent appointment.
“The temporary launch drivers and khalasis are being engaged by the Special Relief Commissioner on six-month contractual basis since long. Even though they have been playing an important role in saving lives of people during natural calamities, a monthly allowance of Rs 7, 100 is being paid to launch drivers and Rs 6, 450 to khalasis, working across 20 districts of the state,” said Mahasangha president Judhisthir Mohapatra
said.
The government should hire them on annual basis instead of six months or provide permanent appointment, he added.
