Earlier, there was speculation about the cricket legend attending the closing ceremony of the hockey WC, along with Rahul Dravid and Saurav Ganguly. Bollywood biggies like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Shahid Kapoor were also expected at the event.
“We have sent across formal requests to a host of Bollywood stars and Indian cricketers for participating in the closing event. Many of them have accorded their consent while the rest are likely to commit by the first week of December,” a representative of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department had said.
Former cricketers Anil Kumble and Virender Sehwag were also in Bhubaneswar for the hockey matches. Viru watched the quarterfinal between India and the Netherlands along with the Chief Minister on Thursday.
The state government is leaving no stone unturned to make the event a star-studded affair. So far, Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, A R Rahman and Salman Khan have graced the World Cup celebrations.
