Mumbai: Thailand will introduce an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system for visa-exempt travellers, effective December 1. It will streamline immigration procedures across border points and help track foreign nationals in the country. India is one of 90-odd countries whose citizens enjoy visa-free business and tourism travel to Thailand.
“This move is part of Thailand’s broader efforts to ensure national security and improve visitor flow management without compromising its status as a major global tourist destination,” a CBC report quoted Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying.
Visitors can complete the ETA requirement and obtain approval online. There wouldn’t be any fee for this application.
After Thailand expanded its visa exemption to more countries in July this year, The citizens of 93 countries can enter Thailand without a prior visa. While citizens of neighbouring Cambodia, Laos, and Malaysia are included in the visa exemption, they will not require ETA.
