There’s A ‘Ticking Time Bomb’ In Space! Here’s What Scientists Say
Bhubaneswar: Pollution and scattered garbage is not only a problem on planet Earth, but in space too.
The swirling debris in space or space junk is as dangerous as pollution or global warming on Earth.
In a conversation with Forbes, LeoLabs senior technical fellow Darren McKnight referred to space junk as a “ticking time bomb” that is waiting to explode.
In the past few years, an escalation in space junk has become a major concern and experts believe that if this problem is not solved on a priority basis, then it might prove to be catastrophic.
LeoLabs COO Dan Ceperly stated that space junk poses a great risk to astronauts.
“Any size fragment above a few millimeters is likely lethal to astronauts,” said Ceperley.
Nearly 30,000 objects bigger than a softball are found to be scattered around the Earth and they are all travelling at a very fast pace.
