Berhampur: Unidentified miscreants decamped with gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs of rupees and all cash from the donation box of Tara Tarini Temple, about 34 km from Odisha’s Berhampur, on Tuesday night.
According to sources, the thieves entered the temple premises by breaking the metal grills. The looted jewelleries include silver crown of the deity and a ceremonial umbrella. “The robbers broke the lock of the main gate and entered the temple. They have decamped with gold, and silver ornaments. They also emptied the donation box,” said the temple priest, who was the first to notice the theft.
The priest, however, rued that lack of CCTV cameras on the premises will make it hard for the cops to trace the culprits. “The administration should help us in installing CCTV cameras so that such thefts do not occur again,” he added.
Meanwhile, Purushottampur police have launched a manhunt to nab the miscreants.
