Jajpur: In a bold overnight robbery, unidentified miscreants dismantled and carted away an entire HDFC Bank Automated Teller Machine (ATM) from a kiosk in Odisha’s Jajpur district.
The crime occurred late on January 1 near Mainda Chhak under Binjharpur police limits, taking advantage of reduced activity during the New Year period.
According to sources, the miscreants first stole a trolley goods auto-rickshaw from nearby to haul the heavy machine after uprooting it from its base. Residents in the area reported hearing loud noises suggestive of dismantling work between 1 am and 2 am, but the theft was only noticed the following morning when people arrived at the kiosk.
On being informed, police arrived at the spot and launched a probe. The trolley was later recovered with dismantled parts of the ATM machines. While forensic experts are collecting evidence, including potential fingerprints and tool marks, CCTV recordings from surrounding areas are being examined to identify and track down the culprits.
